HMCS Qu’Appelle 21 June 2014

The Town of Qu’Appelle dedicated its silhouette monument to HMCS Qu’Appelle on Saturday, 21st June, and the Royal Canadian Navy was well represented by over a dozen members of the ship’s company of HMCS QUEEN.

The QUEEN personnel participated in the town’s parade down the main street, vigorously distributing candy, frisbees and toy footballs, much to the delight of the youngsters who lined the route!

Various dignitaries offered their congratulations to the Town on the completion of the project but it was Petty Officer John Wilkinson who pleased the audience with a short description of his service aboard HMCS Qu’Appelle.

The mayor of Qu’Appelle concluded the ceremony by officially ‘launching’ the ship in the time-honoured fashion – by breaking a bottle of champagne over the ship’s bow!
