Awards 2012

At the HMCS QUEEN Awards Night Tuesday, 3rd April, LCdr Thiemann surprised Ken McCaw and Steve Smedley when he presented The Friends of the Navy with a Commanding Officer’s Bravo Zulu Award, a copy of which is attached hereto.

(Bravo Zulu is a naval signal, conveyed by flag hoist or voice radio, meaning "Well Done"; in addition to flag hoist and voice radio, use of the term Bravo Zulu has also been extended in contemporary times to include written correspondence and message traffic from senior naval officers to congratulate/compliment contemporaries or juniors, to include their subordinate crews or commands, for outstanding performance.)

Clearly, our efforts to support our sailors are not going unnoticed and we are very pleased, as well as humbled, by the recognition. Well done indeed, everyone!

I’ve also attached a few other photos that were taken at the Depart With Dignity ceremonies for Malcolm French and Neil Webster, at the Family & Friends Dinner and at the Ceremonial Divisions and Awards Night. All of these events were the last such occasions for LCdr Thiemann, as Commanding Officer, and for Lt Mitchell, as Executive Officer; both gentlemen are leaving QUEEN this spring/summer. Of course, we wish both of them fair winds and following seas.
